What is depression?


In contrast to normal sadness, clinically depression is more persistent and can interfere with your daily life activities.

Depression is mainly characterized by profound sadness, lack of motivation, feelings of worthlessness, and loss of interest in pleasurable activities, The prevalence of depression is 10 to 15 percent.

The common symptoms of depression:

Irritable or depressed mood ,loss of interest, loss of motivation ,changes in sleep pattern and weight ,loss of appetite ,poor concentration ,,low self esteem ,social isolation, death wish, suicidal idea and plan.

Depression is categorised in:
  • Major depressive disorder
  • Atypical depression,
  • Persistent depressive disorder
  • Bipolar disorder.
